Looking forward

I applied at a local university yesterday, at least did the online application part. I have to wait to come up with the $44 fee to send it in. I’m still looking over my course/degree options, not sure what will fit what I want to do best. I know I want to do youth counseling of some kind, though I realize more of those require a master’s degree. My hope is to find some way for my bachelors to get me working while I complete the master’s education. I can’t get in with a career councilor until I’ve applied, nor can I sign up for financial aid until I apply, so…I applied. I’ve taken the first step. We’ll see what happens after that.

More good news

Nashoba's Hope
My release date for Nashoba’s Hope is being moved up my nearly a month which is really exciting. This means for those of you who were hoping to nab a copy in May, now you’ll be able to download you own in mid April. Hmmm now I need to find places willing to do reviews of f/f ebooks (unless Shadowfire handles that, they seem pretty on when it comes to promo stuff. :)

Coming April 17th from Shadowfire Press  )

I’m trying out unicreatures since dragon cave is down so much lately.

Oh and as a reminder, [info]con_or_bust  is still running auctions, so there’s time to donate something, or buy, buy, buy! For those who do not know, [info]con_or_bust  is an online auction to raise money to help POC get to WisCon this year.

They’re taking about a March 2009 release date which would be just in time for Oddcon and Wiscon, woohoo!

I joined a new writing group today that looks like fun, meta writer, and an thinking about what I need to catch up on. I got my edits in for Natural Order, and hoping I feel well enough to start tackling those today. I did not only get some thought on things to fix with Bloodstained Innocence, but considering doing a prequel novel or two for Oh It’s Magic to center more on how Juniper gets the shop. You see, she grew up in some really bad foster home and spent years as an exotic dancer after running away to earn the money for the magic shop…I was thinking starting the first book from the time just before she gets the shop, while she’s still a dancer. As far as BI, I think I'm going to switch out all the other POV I was using and just do the story from Ashante and Chi's POV, to show how each are affected by the other entering thier life.

My day thus far...

Coming Together AF
Looks like a couple of my eggs might be hatching which is a good thing.

Adopt one today!   Adopt one today!   Adopt one today!

Another good thing is finding out my story “Untouched Perfection” made it into the “Coming Together: Al Fresco” anthology. I can’t list the other authors (yet) since they are still being notified, but I am thrilled to find my story and so many wonderful authors I’m familiar with made it in. This is going to be a great anthology!

I’m mulling over program ideas for Wiscon since the deadline is tomorrow, so good wishes for the practical side of my muse to surface and help me in this task. If any of you all have already submitted panel ideas around the Fail 2009 topics in hope of stirring up positive change, please send me a private poke so I don’t rehash what you’ve already set in motion. :)

In and out of the house like crazy today, but wanted to let ya'll know I got some great news. "Isabella" has been picked up by Shadowfire Press to be published this summer. Along with "Wild Things" (due out in fall) and "Nashoba’s Hope" (due out in time for Wiscon) that three. Not a bad start to my year.

No hatching yet, 5 days left...should I be worried?

Just for fun I adopted an egg from the Dragon Cave thing while I am taking a house cleaning break (I sooo hate cleaning, but the gaming group is coming over tonight and the house is a mess). I don't know what to do with it, but here it is...

Adopt one today!

Along with the abandended egg above I found these later on, both mystery eggs.

Adopt one today!    Adopt one today!

I think I need to look into the incubater things they mentioned to display multiple eggs. I maybe shouldn't have gotten all three, but I'd tried for a while to get a mystery egg at all so I was excited to get two.

My youngest monster turned 6 yesterday, my eldest turned 10 a couple weeks ago, and in a few weeks I am 40. Time seems to rush ahead when you're not looking. I am feeling very contimplative today.

Thanks to [info]elisemfor directing me to this video to help those of you in warmer places understand how cold it is here in the Midwest in America. In the vid it's only a couple degrees lower than it is right outside my door currently. Cold enough that our connection went wonky most of the morning and our normally reliable car refuses to start. Frikken cold...

Have I mentioned this week how must I HATE wintertime in this city?

I just got word today that my story “No Boundaries" made it into the Coming Together: Against the Odds anthology. I am so stoked. I can’t list the other stories and authors yet until they are all contacted, but I will post the full list as soon as it is okayed. The Coming Together charity anthologies have such a great reputation for quality that I feel so honored to have had a story chosen. I can’t wait to see the rest of the stories.

Okay, I’m refusing to let this dim my pleasure at “Family Matters” being accepted for the Queer Wolf anthology, but I just got an email from Phaze saying my story “Wicked Witch” is just not for them. I don’t know if they meant “not for them” as a general term, or just not for the RAW theme sheet, but there you have it. It was my first attempt at fetish lit, so maybe I missed the mark somehow, or maybe the ritual themed erotica wasn’t there cup of cocoa. I wish I knew if there was an issue with the story itself, or if it was just a personal prefernce for that editor and I should send it to someone else. So one acceptance and one regection in one day, can't complain too much about that.

I got the coolest email this morning in the mass of emails I normally wake up to. My story "Family Matters" was just accepted into Queer Fiction's "Queer Wolf" Anthology. What a thrill! I will keep ya'll posted when I hear more about the other story/authors who will be joining me in this fun project and when it'll be avalible.

It took some juggling after no replies from betas who had the story, but "No Boundaries" is completed and off to the readers for the Coming Together: Against the Odds anthology. The deadline is tomorrow, so hopefully all of you who wanted to submit stories to this worthy cause have done so (hint hint).

I Do and We Did!

I Do
My habit of being only on the short list but never making the final cut for an anthology call seems to be at an end. (I hope permanently :P ). I just found out I made it into the “I Do” charity anthology project created by [info]alex_beecroft  and several others. All profits of the sale of the book to go to the Lambda Legal Fund and all Printing and distribution costs have been donated by MLR Press

It seems we are not to be kitten free for long. Six foster kittens arrived last night, most done with a horrible case of a respiratory infection from their time at the shelter. I was up past midnight brushing, trimming, giving meds, feeding, etc… and getting all of the kitten into their sleeping area. Once the cold is gone they’ll get daily play room time, but for not they need peace, rest, and time to adjust. If you want to know more about the new kittens feel free to visit the link below.

On a writing note, I was able to finish my vampire erotica short for a anthology I am submitting to, and my article on building secret societies in paranormal fiction is up at Women and Words blog for your enjoyment.

Whew, been writing my fingers off. It’s hard core snowing lately, so being the home body I am during the winter, it’s a good time to work indoors. I’m still waiting on and answer about the lesbian cowgal anthology (I am still hopeful  ), and I’ve finished four more submissions in the meantime. One story is a light fetish piece for the RAW theme sheets Phaze is doing. Another story is for a charity anthology in support of Lambda Legal fight against Prop 8. The third story is one for the Queer Wolf call that was a ton of fun to do. The last one I just completed today is another charity piece for the most recent Coming Together call. I also heard back from a horror anthology I submitted to saying they misplace my submission and would I please resend. Of course I did, so hoping to hear good news from them, too.

Next project is either an attempt at the “Creamy” theme call Ellora’s Cave is holding, and/or the Summer sensations theme story for Total-e-bound. Both I’m not certain about, one because neither seemed interested in f/f or f/f/m, and the fact I have a submission still in with EC that’s been there for nearly a year and I know they are very backlogged. I’m not sure what that means for the anthology calls. Maybe those are separate editors and don’t take as long. We’ll see what the muse says to me when I sit down to write tomorrow.

On a side note, two of the four foster kittens were adopted out this weekend, and a family is interested in the other sister too, it seems. Both home are very good people with possitive energy to them. It's very exciting!

Peace out all!

Frustrations of a wasted day

I’d thought it was a good idea at least. The job hunt had been going dismally, the creative end of writing went well, but as usual the dread at the coming thoughts of revisions poked incessantly at the back of my mind. I don’t know why I went there. As a lark. A moment of inspiration. In either case there I was at the MATC website tooling through their classes…

Path of the Huntress

Okay, now that I've completed the Nano goal I am focusing on completely the rest of the novel by the 30th. If I can keep this pace, I should be fine. This one is looking to be at least 100k, so that's where I'm setting the word count for now. To those still working on Nano, keep going! If my ADD brain can do this, so can you. Ignore my writing junkie level of insanity though, it's a sickness, no gauge of where a normal person so been in the second week. :)
