On another note…

Was Thinking
Among the thoughts around the plan to start college in the fall, came an increasing concern about how my ADD and LDs would make my education hopes a far greater challenge. Because of this I went to my doc about the idea of taking meds for my ADD (I’ve tried many alternative treatments over the years with little noticeable results), and he sent me to a specialist. Today will me my first day on meds. The specialist told me to take half a capsule a day for 4 days and then to take a full capsule if I get no negative affects. I’m not sure how you take half a capsule. It’s not like splitting a regular pill in half. How come he couldn’t just prescribe me half dosages?

I can't help with capsule splitting (although a pharmacist might be willing to take the capsules and make them up into smaller capsules for you?), sorry. But I wanted to mention that when my (dyslexic/ADHD) husband went to college they had a program for LD that helped a whole lot with things like notes, text books on tape, study strategies, etc. My college had a writing center that would help with organizational skills around assignments in addition to the actual writing bits (which you're unlikely to need help with!). You might find that your college has good resources for LD that will make a big difference. Back when we were young it wasn't really focused on but things have come a decent way lately.

I am hoping the college will have some programs. I'll learn more once my application is accepted. :)

I asked my mother (the nurse) and she said she had no idea how to cut a capsule in half. She said if it was a caplet, then you could just cut it in half like a regular pill. But capsules, she's clueless. She did say that you could ask the person who prescribed them, or you could call any pharmacist (like at Walgreens or CVS) and ask them about it.

Sorry I wasn't able to help more!

I talked to the pharmicist and he thinks the doc is loopy for not just perscribing the lower dosage for a week.

Yeah, what [info]marydell said: Make sure that you let your university know that you're ADD, because almost everyone has some kind of program in place. Several of my students handed me letters from the Student Services Department explaining that they were supposed to get 1.5 time for tests and a distraction-free learning environment, etc.
