Ranty day

KillYou!
Well, I finally heard back from PD on the sequel to Ancestral Magic and there was a huge list of issues that need to be fixed before it can be contracted. Hell! Some of the stuff they say to add is already in the story so I’m at a total loss on how to fix. It was like getting an editor list of fixes to be done without the editor guiding me through where thing could be added or worked in. My ADD brain is about to explode. I want to fix the note very badly but I am feeling so overwhelmed I don’t see how I can manage. I hate feeling like this, like I’m too dumb to understand what other folks find easy. I mean it makes sense when I go chapter by chapter with an editor, but general note like this make not sense to me. Fuck! I hate being like this!

I don't have ADD, but I do feel that impending dread when I see a list of stuff PD wants changed in a manuscript. It takes a Herculean effort to get the manuscript open and start going through the changes, but once I do, I find it's pretty easy to get into the swing.

I'm not saying it'll be easy for you, I'm just saying I understand that first gasp of horror when you see the list of stuff they want. I may have to remove an entire scene from Only Flame and Air, which would be very sad for me. ~g~

Good luck with it! The result will be worth the effort. :)

I think if I understood where to made the big changes better it wouldn't feel so overwhelming. Thanks for the thought though. I'll manage somehow, I have to. I have so many readers clammering lately for the sequel I have to get this fixed and fast. I wish I knew how just now.

~nods~ I like to give it a complete rewrite. Well, not complete. But I go through the entire manuscript with their notes next to me, just so I'll be able to find stuff they may have missed and/or better work the changes into the actual body of work. I have more time to write, though, so it doesn't take too much time for me to do that.

I know how it feels to have the readers clawing at you! It's a very nice problem to have, but it IS a problem sometimes.

Well, I have finally ordered Book 1 so I will add my good thoughts re. the sequel. I know what you mean about getting general notes and how that can be confusing. I don't suffer from ADD (only in the usual procrastinatory way *g*), but even so it is VERY hard to approach general notes and know exactly where to apply the changes in the manuscript.

Good luck. You'll definitely get there - take lots of rests and try not to push too hard.

Thanks! I'm determinded to resubmit by end of this month whatever I have to do. Luckily a pro editor friend has offered to be my hero and look over the manuscript and the notes to help me figure out what I can do. :) I feel better now that I have her help.
